What is Covid-age?
Recent Covid-19 research has demonstrated that some people are more likely to suffer serious illness if they contract Covid-19,
and that those at higher risk should take more precautions to avoid infection. The individual's vulnerability to serious illness
is calculated as "Covid-age" and takes into consideration their chronological age, ethnicity, and sex, along with underlying
health conditions known to increase the risk of serious illness. These risks are broken down into four categories, Low, Moderate,
High and Very High.
Where has the term Covid-age come from?
The term "Covid-age" was introduced in a study recently published by Coggon et al.
If I use the online tool, will I be told my Covid-age?
The tool will tell you which of the four risk categories you fall into.

Do I need to see my GP, Specialist or Occupational Health if my score is moderate or above?
We strongly advise that if your score is anything but low, you should speak to your GP, specialist or occupational health department to discuss your underlying health issues.
Am I safe to return to work if my Covid-age risk is moderate or above?
It depends on your job role.
A workplace risk assessment should be completed. For example, if you work from home or you can work in an isolated office maintaining social distance,
it is likely you can continue to work. If you are in a public facing job role or need to take public transport, you may not be safe.
I don't have any underlying health issues, but my score has still come out as moderate or above. Should I still speak to my GP, specialist, or occupational health department?
If you are planning to return to work, your GP, specialist, or occupational health provider can offer useful advice on how you can return to work more safely.
Why has my score come up as moderate or above if I don't have any underlying health issues?
Covid-age considers your chronological age, ethnicity, and BMI. These factors have shown to increase your chances of serious illness if you contract Covid-19.
I have an illness that isn't included on this form. Does that mean I am safe from complications of Covid-19?
We strongly advise that if you have an ailment, symptoms of an underlying health concern or a diagnosis that is not included in this form, you should speak to your GP, specialist or occupational health department to discuss your individual circumstances.
How often is the Covid-age toolkit calculator updated?
The Covid-age toolkit is updated weekly, or more frequently, if significant new research is published.
I'm a HR specialist and would like to use this toolkit to help my staff return to work. How can I get the results of my employee's risk scores?
We're sure as an employer you are keen to get your staff quickly and safely back to work. This SOM (Society of Occupational Medicine) endorsed toolkit uses Covid-age to filter all employees through an online risk assessment and identifies the most vulnerable.
We can tailor it for companies so that notifications about employees with a low risk score are automatically sent to a nominated person in your organisation. If you have an Occupational Health service, the completed forms can be stored on your databases and then clinical judgement can be applied to risk assess anyone with higher scores.
Our company doesn't have an occupational health department. Can we still use the toolkit?
We can securely store your employee's sensitive information. We can provide the risk score to a nominated person within your organisation. Using this information along with a workplace risk assessment will help keep your staff safer in these uncertain times.
Our company doesn't have an occupational health department. Can we use Polbridge Health Ltd.?
